The Charities Information Bureau at the CVS has FunderFinder. It is a database of Charitable Trusts with a programme that helps you find those that match your funding requirements.

I need funding to attend a course at Cannington. Can you help ?

The Careers Service, who have FundFinder, Student Loans and other information. The Student Welfare Department of the College. The Educational Department at County Hall. There is also a special national helpline on funding for further and higher education called Studentline Helpline. Tel 0845 603 0350

A Village Hall needs to find funds to provide better access to disabled people.

There is a possibility that the local council, the Duchy of Cornwall, the Parish Council and the Lottery funds might help, but best refer to Somerset Community Council, especially Eileen Zoers, as they work with village halls. Tel: 01823 331222.

Who collects old stamps ?

The Albemarle Centre on behalf of themselves, Cancer Research, Musgrove Leukemic Group and Taunton Tapes. They also collect coins, postcards, cigarette cards, bric-a-brac and military items. Other organisations wanting stamps include; OXFAM and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

TDBC have set up a recycling scheme with Alcan, the proceeds going to charity. Contact TDBC for collection points.

Someone has food to give away, who would take it ?

Refer them to the Open Door for their soup runs, or Taunton Association for the Homeless, and (occasionally) the Women's Refuge.

Someone in Taunton has furniture to give away, who would take it ?

Refer to the Home Furniture Service Trust, the Red Cross and Hospice shops. Contacts in CVS Directory of Voluntary organisations. In Yeovil to Furnicare - 01935 433416. In West Somerset refer to the CVS.

Someone wants to send clothes / other items to Eastern Europe, who would take it ?

Some of the local churches also organise appeals and convoys.

A local firm has an Xmas Fundraiser - please suggest a local charity for the proceeds.

The firm could ask themselves a few questions to find out if there are any particular areas of interest or causes they are interested in - e.g. children, disabled people, animals, carers. We can send on a selection from the CVS Directory or the firm may wish to purchase from us the Directory which includes hundreds of charities.
